Note 1Officer of the Order of The Saviour. He and/or his father went from Constantinople to Romania and founded an eponymous bank from which the family made its fortune. Had an estate called Guidigne in Moldavia which became a hospital in WWl.
Note 2He allegedly acquired the property at Ghidigeni as a wager in a game of cards with a Greek called Alexandru Mavrocordatu though this has been disputed. He built a new house adjacent to the existing Turkish dwelling.
Note 3A later extension built on to the back of the house was used as a hospital during the 1916-1918 war and as an orphanage during Communist times. He also constructed a distillery and a railway link across the River Bărlad to the main line.
Note 4The property covered 22,000 hectares, of which 11,000 were arable.
