Note 1Or Chrissoveloni. May have been called Ioannis, Zannis or Zanni. ‘Good-looking and charming’, he inherited the Romanian family bank, by now with branches in Paris and London.
Note 2The extension built on to the back of the Ghidigeni house in Romania was used as a hospital during the 1916-1918 war (where Queen Marie worked as a nurse) and was an orphanage during Communist times.
Note 3He also constructed a distillery and a railway link across the River Bûrlad to the main line. The property covered 22,000 hectares, of which 11,000 were arable (reduced to 2,500 after WWl).
Note 4There were two swimming pools, a bowling green and an indoor tennis court. Zanni developed the village, building the church and town hall, and built houses where gypsies could settle and provide labour for the property.
Note 4Owner of a 40/50 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost (6LG) built 1921 (motor no. 0223), coachwork (Salamanca Cabriolet) by Barker, no. 4645 found on the floorboard. Another source records J. Chrissoveloni as owner of a pre-WWl Rolls Royce n. 1660.
