Note 1Killed in a notorious pistol duel at Belle Croix, Fontainebleau on 26 Nov 1873 by Prince Constantin Souter who suspected him of being his wife’s lover. He died of a thigh injury the following day.
Note 2This was the last fatal duel in Paris and figured in a film by the Lumières brothers: ‘Duel aux Pistolets’ (1898).
