MemoDate unknown. May have died soon after 1837 according to anecdotal evidence.

Residence1838, London, England
OccupationMerchant (probably in cotton)
OriginSyros and probably Chios.
Note 1Presumably the Lucas P Mavrogordato listed on a Syros census return of 1837 as a merchant of Chios, unmarried and aged 21 (ie born ca 1816) he seems to be in London in 1837.
Note 2According to Beth McBride he may have been born in Greece [Chios ?] 1810-13 and was a wool merchant [more likely cotton] in London 1830-40 where he was a British subject.
Note 3Appears he fathered a child with Ellen Melvin, the Mavrogordato family’s nurse. Their birth of a daughter Mary Ann was registered in 2nd quarter 1838 from an address in Threadneedle Street, London [Lucas’soffice?].
Note 4Tradition has it Lucas died soon after Mary Ann’s birth [is this true?] and that the Mavrogordato family found a husband for Ellen in a widower called John Farmer who settled with his new family in Chicago, USA [with financial aid from the Mavrogordatos?]
Note 5It was said by Ellen’s descendants that Lucas married Ellen at the Roman Catholic St Mary's Gate Church in London (though this seems very unlikely) and that he died soon after.
