Note 1Friend and adviser to Mehemet Ali, Khedive of Egypt, who gave him the neighbourhood of Ramleh, Alexandria. Created Count 15 Jul 1847 by SAR Charles-Louis de Bourbon, Duc de Lucques, recognised by King Leopold l of Belgium (see Belgian ‘Libro d’Oro’ 1849).
Note 2George and his brother Stephanos founded Zizinia & Co in Marseilles in 1822. The company became too involved in ambitious schemes during the construction of the Suez Canal and was bankrupted by the Egyptian State in 1876.
Note 3Was he the builder/owner of the palatial Zizinia palazzo in Alexandria, later destroyed in riots?
