Note 1He and his brother are said to have died of influenza within weeks of each other. He and his siblings appear to have suffered from physical and mental problems perhaps resulting from inbreeding.
Note 2The 1881 England Census reports that Peter Scaramanga, 29, and Strati Scaramanga, 26, both unmarried, lived at 22 Hyde Park Gardens, Paddington, London, in a group facility for 'imbeciles’.
Note 3David Stewart says the boy was attended by Sir Benjamin Brodie (1783‒1862) and Dr John Snow, the latter recording in his notes that the child was of the ”Aztec type”, referring to a form of microcephaly.
Note 4Peter Scramanga died 27th April 1890 at West Hill, Shanklin aged 38 years. Said to be of independent means. Rheumatic Fever 10 days, Meningitis 4 days. Certified by George H R Dabbs MD. Mother, Julia was the informant.
