Note 1(Makarana) Lived most of his life in London. He was in Brighton a week before his death (and may have lived there).
Note 2He wrote: ““My children Mimina, Peter and Strati are unfortunately of weak mind and it is not at all probable that they will ever be able to govern either themselves or their property.” He instructed is nephew to ensure their care and comfort for life.

Note 1(Chaviara-Axeskoufotos) Presumably the Mrs Scaramanga referred to in the diaries of Mary Ann Chadwell: e.g. ‘Thursday 15th April 1869: ‘I lunched with Mrs Scaramanga and drove with her to Acton’. She left £20,000 to the Chios Schools on her death.
Note 2All four of her children died young, leaving her with no grandchildren. She spent more than half her life as a widow.
Note 3David Stewart says that Rebecca M Allam, formerly a governess at Park House institute in Highgate, was working in 1871 and 1881 for the Scaramanga family in Hyde Park Gardens where three children Peter, Eutratius and Mimina were Imbeciles from birth.
Note 4“It was in the 1871 census that they [her children] are all described as imbeciles from birth... In the 1861 census it was only Eustratius who is said to be dumb and deaf from birth.”
Note 5Apparently one child was deaf and dumb, another an imbicile. In 1861 the household had eight servants; in 1891 there were six.
Note 5In 1900 she inherited £1,000 from her sister-in-law Mimina Ralli (née Scarmanga).
