Note 1(Hamartolos) One of the very few who escaped from imprisonment by the Turks in the 'Kastro' during the Massacre, Apr 1822, Chios, The Hellenes. He and Alexandra had Dimitrios as a child in arms when they sailed for Trieste.
Note 2After the massacres on Chios in 1822, many surviving members of the Petrocochino family first sought refuge in Trieste and quickly moved to Livorno where they had had links since the C18th.
Note 3Some Petrocochinos moved on to Marseilles where Michael Petrocochino (whose father and two brothers were hanged at Chios) was then living
