Note 2Served in the 24th Wisconsin Infantry during the Civil War. He and his wife had an apartment at Maison Corinaldi, Place Grimaldi, Nice. ‘Only surviving child of Alexander & Martha’.
Note 3Donated generously to civic causes (e.g. Racine College) and to family members. Suffered during a run on the bank in 1893, using about 1.3 million dollars of his own assets to satisfy depositors.
Note 4At his death his estate was estimated at 505,847 US dollars.
