Note 1In Constantinople 1453. The Metaxa family were refugees from Constantinople, first settling in Crete and then moving (most of them) to Venetian Cephalonia.
Note 2Left Constantinople on the day it fell, 29 May 1453. He and two of his brothers, Sergio and Nicolaos, sailed to Chios and soon moved on to Crete.
Note 3In about 1500 the three brothers were invited to the Ionian Islands by the Venetian Republic and Marcantonia settled in Cephalonia in the village of Franzatta which became Metaxata after his death.
